There are those in the masses of MMA fandom that do not appreciate the UFC’s attempts to become a really worldwide brand and try to get in the European marketplace, particularly the UFC 122 odds competition which will be put on in Oberhausen Germany on November 13th.
And it’s not that these enthusiasts are anti-European or anti German. It’s basically that the lineup for this German smack down is not quite perfect. As we noticed last month with the UFC 120 competition put on in London England, organizers tend to fill the fighting lineup with home grown talent (or at least European talent) in an effort to develop a bigger lover base in the huge Euro market which has so far refused MMA as a sporting choice.
The UFC 122 wagering action will feature three German fighters and many other European fighters. The main issue with this is that the German MMA arena is comparatively modest and practically none of German fighters in the UFC 122 odds contest are known outside of their towns or cities and particularly not to nearly all of the UFC enthusiasts. So even though there are more Germans than common on the card, they won’t be met with additional help from enthusiasts.
The activity of MMA has been met with serious criticism in the nation by its media and authorities. It’s previously led to minors being prohibited from the first German UFC competition, UFC 99, and this it year it’s led to the sport being prohibited from being broadcast entirely. The Germans have found the “extent of violence shown to be unacceptable” and so the competition will be shown by tape delay on Spike TV here in the u.s., but not whatsoever in the nation it’s actually being put on in.
The fact that the Main Card headlining bout in the UFC 122 wagering action will include Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami in a competition in which the champion is not even certain a prospect at the division title says a good deal about the talent level of the contest in Oberhausen.
But that does not necessarily mean bad news for the MMA enthusiasts wants to play the UFC 122 odds. Whilst these fighters may not be pretty recognized and never add up to much on the UFC fighting arena, their comparable anonymity provides plenty of wagering opportunity for the informed enthusiasts ready to do a little homework and figure out a bit more about these unknown fighters.
Take for instance Pascal Krauss, a German welterweight who is scheduled to fight Englishman Mark Scanlon on the Preliminary card. He is 6’1″, 170 lbs and he has never lost an MMA contest in his life. He’s got a perfect 9-0 record in MMA action, 7 of the victories by submission. He might be next big thing in UFC!
Have you considered Karlos Vemola, the Czech fighter nicknamed the “Terminator” with a 7-1 record, who will be looking to make mincemeat of American Seth Petruzelli in the light heavyweight division.
There is plenty of comparatively unknown talent out there just waiting to be discovered and wager on by MMA enthusiasts in the upcoming UFC 122 Main Event.
